NBD (FINALLY!!!!) Vanquish Multiscale 5-string - "Bumblebee"

Postby MadMike23 » Sat Apr 22, 2017 5:47 am

You've seen him several times during Jeff's factory walk-throughs... some of you have agonized with me during the four-month wait... well, now I can finally present to the world... BUMBLEBEE!!!

WELL worth the wait. Perfect setup and almost in tune right out of the box. Very little learning curve for the fanned-fret board. VERY articulate, especially in the lowest notes. A VERY different, darker sound with the swamp ash body. Going to like this, I can tell.

Okay, enough of my yammering - time for bass porn:

Oh, no... it's a bleeding box:

Soft - and that's an interesting word, this thing is built like a tank - bass case:

How is the feel of the fan fret neck? Does it do what it's supposed to?

If you mean "Does it even the tension across the neck?", the answer is an unequivocal yes. Very playable. I have never heard such an articulate C on a B string before. No farty sounds, just pure tone.

There's a nice tummy contour on the back of the bass, too, which I wasn't expecting. Very comfortable to play (and I'm kind of a big guy, so that's saying something). Haven't gotten on the scale with it, but I'd put the weight at about 9 1/2 lbs. (I had it made with a chambered body). MUCH lighter than I was expecting. Lots of pleasant surprises so far with this bass.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I can't remember the numbers, but I think the B string scale is shorter than on Dingwal basses. Glad it's a winner.
