NBD: Custom AB4

This is the one. Insane tone, acoustic or amp'd.

Specs:
Walnut body and neck
Ebony top and board
Custom layout J99A/SCP
Low-wide frets

Impressions: Unplugged it's both growly and sweet, great sustain. All options are 100% and everything works as it should.
The custom pickup layout is a great success, many thanks to MJ and Jeff for making it happen. Having the pickups (especially the neck J99A) close to the center "P-bass" spot really is a thing of beauty. The singlecoil takes on a whole new life, as well as allowing me to rest my thumb and pluck in a different (better, IMHO) spot than I normally would with a standard two-pickup layout.

The setup and action were great right out of the box, still dialing it in but it's going to be a very minimal process. As far as comfort goes, it's a very nice bass to play, the Aries body is definitely a winner. Upper fret access is as easy as a Vanquish.

I'll try to get some outdoor/group shots and hopefully sound clips on Sunday. So happy with the bass though, this is really my (fretted) dream Kiesel.

NICE! That is an extremely KILLER looking bass! I dig the pickup config, and, even though I'm a headless lover, I REALLY like the LB-style headstock...

Well played, sir!

Big congrats to you, "MikeBass"!! That came out great! I'd be interested to hear the difference between this one and your Vanquish. Happy NBD & enjoy!

Brother, you are to be commended. A stunning set of choices.

The position of that J is amazing. I couldn't look at the bass itself for like 2 whole minutes. I kept envisioning playing and hearing that J, then the split, then both. Wow.

Next should be a splt/split, eh? :stir:

VERY WELL DONE, sir. VERY well done.

(ps: obvious genius move choosing NIN)

Such a looker! Love everything about it! How's the weight?? Walnut and Ebony can be heavy so I'm curious.
Also, what's the story with the hardware?
It's mostly chrome, but the Bridge body and the neck bolts and washers are black.
Did you request that or is that something to do with the components themselves??
Just asking as I really dig the look of it all.

Congrats and Enjoy!!

Thanks everyone. My evening just freed up so I'm going to try and get some pictures and clips.

Thanks! I don't have a scale but it feels about the same weight as the previous LB70, slightly lighter than the V49K.
The hardware is standard chrome, no customizations there. As far as i know, the bridge base and neck bolts are black no matter what color hardware you get. I really like how the chrome tuners look with the walnut neck.

More notes:

It's really interesting how much of a tonal different the alternate pickup placement makes, both for the 50/50 blend and soloed neck p/u sounds. Especially compared to the fretless LB70 with (mostly) identical pickups and woods.

This new body shape is very comfortable, the bass feels compact and fast.

So. Much. Win!
Glad you are enjoying them.
Cool that the pup placement is noticeable in the tone.
Love them both. The Aries was my 2nd choice on my recent order...

Good to hear. The body seems larger in every dimension than the LB.

That looks great!

I haven't been thrilled with the proportions of the Aries bass, but that looks really good. Love the custom pickup placement.

I was contemplating asking for reverse P on the PB4 I just ordered but I figured it would be a pretty penny if they would even do it because they'd have to cut a new pickguard too.
