NBD: Aries Bass 6-2 weeks early!- The Poster Child-

Postby Burflickle » Sun Jul 02, 2017 9:46 pm

With my kids grown finally have some time and funds to get companion for my 35 yr old Carvin LB50 fretless bass. I've followed Carvin/Kiesel guitars over the decades. I had wanted a Bunny Brunel model. That went away and I realized I wasn't sure what model I wanted. So, I thought, hey! why don't I just drive to the showroom? Consequently, I made a day trip from Phoenix to the showroom and back home on April 29th. Played most of the basses and loved the Aries. Talked to Flock about what I wanted. Flock said Lava over the maple burl I wanted would give me the look I was after. His expertise really paid off! Huge props to Flock! I've always loved basses that look like this one does. Just what I wanted.
Specs:
Aries Bass 6
lava over maple burl w/ deep bevel
Walnut body
Gold Hardware & Gold Evo frets
Maple/Purpleheart neck
Active electronics
Ebony fretboard & truss rod /electronics cover

I can't seem to get the photos the right size to upload. Click this link for photos: https://1drv.ms/a/s!AoieaFlbnwkqml8IDGyH_Mjmpz4R

Sweet bass, my man! Congrats! It's a beauty. Even though I'm a headless guy, I'm really starting to dig the Aries headstock. Enjoy it!

Are you saying that you ordered it on 4/29 and it showed up two weeks early? That blows my mind. My 1st Vader was due mid-April and showed up mid-May, and my current Vader was due mid-June and here we are, three weeks later and...

Psyched for you, bro, that's a killer bass, but I'm still smh...

Thanks, pbass6811! And, yes, ordered it 4/29. Flock initially said 12 weeks because Lava is an option 50. that would have been 7/22, but the official estimated completion ended up 7/10. So, yes, 2 weeks early! I am enjoying it! Heck, I want to just sit and stare at it as much as play it!

Thanks, MikeBass! I really like the split-coil. It's really full sounding. I feel like it leaves more room to slap. So it's more comfortable IMO and I like the sound. I was able to figure that all out when I visited the showroom.

Burflickle,

I finally checked out the pics in your link. Fantastic! How does it sound? Did you get a single coil or a humbucker in the bridge position?

Thanks!! After gawking at beautiful custom basses w/ custom woods, etc for 20+ years I can't hardly believe I finally own one! Anyway, I got the humbucker in the bridge position. Blended 50/50 it's very deep and clear. the highs really sing. Very bell like highs on the C string. The lows really purr. Popping sounds excellent. This is my first time with active electronics and I love them. I have a Carvin pro 250 combo amp. I just leave everything straight up and make minor tweaks with the active electronics. A little bit of blend tweaking makes a completely different sound. Whatever one wants. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Any issues with the blend control? It works in passive mode too, right?

A while back, Kiesel touted their new and improved blend control that doesn't lose any volume in center position. But since then, someone posted here that it seemed like an "all or nothing" deal.

I have a 1998 LB70, and the blend seems fine. But not sure if a two volume setup would be better/different.
