Just spitballin' here (KE content)

Postby MikeBass » Sat Sep 02, 2017 3:19 am

This would be some time in the future, since I'm planning an early xmas present (Labor Day sales at Home Depot, nice 8) ) for the family, but I had somewhat of an epiphany about the last two options I've wanted but never tried, culminating with my great impressions and comparisons between the Aries and LB:

Into what would essentially be my "alpha" bass design. Hopefully he's into it! Took a few untested liberties with some of the specs:

LB70
Kiesel Edition
-5-piece wal/wal neck, walnut body
-Ebony top and rear caps, body and headstock
-Matte satin finish
-Light/transparent/gradual greenburst on the ebony only, clear everywhere else
-Same pickup configuration as the Aries, just a 1/2" closer to the neck (give or take a 1/16th here or there)
-"Reversed" split-coil
-Rosewood board that's light enough to match the walnut
-No inlays
-EVO low-wide frets (keeping my fingers crossed that this is even possible)
-10" radius
-Passive, vol/blend/tone
-3-way toggle, neck only/blend knob/bridge only
-Carvin bridge (PB/JB)
-Black hardware
-Black on gold DS logo

I was also considered a whiteburst instead, with the Ivory nut and white TRC

Thoughts? Or should I just beg Jeff to make one last exception to his rule about Tung on ebony

Killer:
10
satin finish
EVO low wide
pu location
reverse split

my guess:
EVO low wide is not a yes
reverse split is a game changer - might be a yes
the rest is a yes, as asked

tung? don't do it....satin is the right thing on this

Had you considered reverse-P only, with neck pu delete?

Whatever you end up with, it's going to be insane. I dig the idea of greenburst on ebony. Very unusual for sure.

I haven't heard about him doing custom fretwire, but since it's a KE maybe he'll go for it?
I'd settle for SS low-wide frets, but the gold EVO looks great with ebony.

As far the neck pickup delete idea, I love that J99A too much  Especially with the custom placement, such a cool tone.

I've seen a few builds recently with that trans-whiteburst. I'd like something that's unique but at the same time I'm afraid the green on ebony would be too much. Well, at least there's plenty of time to deliberate.

Understood. Hey, do you remember years ago when the BBS had a guy get a white burst on a request they hated it so much they swore literally they would never ever do it again? :) I'll try to find and bump that "unusual bursts" thread -- I think it's on there.

I believe that was an opaque black burst, or at least a dark grey burst, on white, if i am thinking of the same one you are.

I really can't imagine ebony having enough light spots to let the green show. Maybe Madagascar ebony though? Pale moon would of course look amazing...

Right, green might either totally disappear or seem completely out-of-place on ebony. As cool as it might be, I'm leaning more and more toward the trans whiteburst. Along with the Ivory nut and white TRC (two more things I've never tried) it could make for a really cool frozen/ice vibe.
