OH MY. Yeah, that's a beauty, and thanks SO MUCH for the video. I think I've just had my mind made up for me.

GumbyNotPokey, you RULE. How has that HAN coating held up over time?

True story. Within about 2 weeks there were tiny scratches from the roundwounds -- in the space of the string windings -- across little portions of the board, IN the HAN finish.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

I call. With dread. I speak with Albert. He is well known among the K/C die-hards. He is their main guitar tech. He was very patient and kind with me. He said that they have NEVER had one single HAN board come back to them EVER. He said that a slight cosmetic scratching will always happen. And that the board will last a lifetime. He said, literally, play it and enjoy it.

It looks the same in 2018 as it did that second week. :)

On the thread they posted, dig the wide open loose waves of quilt across the BEM board. They gave me a very special slab of BEM. Birdseyes. Rolling quilt. Chatoyance. They did me BEYOND RIGHT.

Hey Gumbynotpokey, question about the fretless birdseye maple fingerboard: do you ever find that the figuring of the BEM makes it harder to play in tune? Do the patterns ever confuse your eyes or lead your fingers astray?
