Well, it's not a tonewood debate so here we go.
IMO (2 cents) this question comes down to the same answer as applies to other questions:
*nickle vs stainless frets
*bridge density (metals)
What answer? I'm glad you asked. This answer: "In your bedroom or studio, with headphones, maybe. On stage at concert volumes, nope".

As long as it is a good solid bridge design, I don't see how it would have much of an effect.
My Carvin basses that have the ability are all setup string through, but that is also how they came from the factory.
