They really finally did it... Multiscale JB bass!!

Postby spudmunkey » Wed Jun 20, 2018 10:41 am

I'm not a bass player, and I don't play multiscale...but I always thought to myself, "You know what would make a killer multiscale? The JB." Sort of like that Dingwall Super P, but a JB.

Well...it happened!

33.5-35" 5-string
33.5-34.5" 4-string

7th fret parallel fret.

Hipshot solo bridges.

Single coil-sized pickups only (including the stacked humbuckers).

Same pickguard and control plate as the standard scale.

At least they didn't angle the pickups. I'd like to see a 4-string with a different headstock.

My hunch is that it uses the same pickguard as the standard scale, which would save them from needing additional parts. If they angled the neck pickup, it would need a new pickguard.

They would need longer pickups, to angle them.

I think for the Vanquish, they use 5-string pickups on the 4, and 6-string pickups on the 5 (that's why there's no multiscale 6, because there's no 7-string pickups)

edit: Ahh, as specified below, it's just all the same pickup width for the different string counts.

For the radiused pickups and the jazz pickups, they have one size.

The SCP is also one size.

The only bass pickup which has different sizes, is the music man style large pole piece humbucker.

They will be around $200 more bass price over the standard JB.

In one of their replies to someone's comment to one of the posts, Chris said that it starts at $1299, which i assume is for the 4 string.

The page is up for the 5-string, although it's not linked anywhere:

Dang...this is the first time a bass has captured my imagination like this.

I've got, like...a bajillion build ideas running through my head...and less than no reasons to buy one...but darn, I want one. :laughhard:

The one that's bouncing around in their now:
5-string in the color below, in gloss (maybe one notch darker...)
Walnut/maple 5-piece neck
Black-as-pitch ebony board
MOP dot inlays (or blocks? ) [edit: nevermind...no blocks in multiscale, duh]
The "Icon" style headstock
White pearl pickguard
Chrome hardware
MOP logo

It was nice, but too light/bright for my own personal taste... But no doubt there were some cool builds with it.
