Fret Leveling Question

Postby dvkerner » Mon May 21, 2018 11:31 am

Does anyone know how much the guys at Kiesel tend to sand off the top of frets during the factory set up? I'm wondering because I'm thinking of putting the medium jumbos on a build, but I'm afraid that the .048 height will be even lower after leveling, and that would be a problem for me.

Any information would be appreciated!

They don't seem to take much off, which means they're doing a great job on leveling the fretboard itself, and used to boast about flat/accurate they were years ago. Nowadays they mention being able to machine to within .001" which is pretty darn great to start with, and any finish work can make it a little better.

Guitar theorem: G=X+1 where G= guitars one needs, and X = guitars one has.

Do or do not; there is no understand.

Kiesel/Carvin uses a diamond precision fretboard grinder. They shouldn't require much, if any, fret leveling in the factory.
