My new Xccelerator 4 string

Postby Bass Viking » Fri Feb 03, 2017 6:59 am

I just got this X44 yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. You may recognize it from the in-stock page. Here are a few shots:

It has an aggressive piano-like tone that I'm digging. Here's my review on Talkbass: Kiesel X44 review

I recorded a brief video. There will be more coming.

Sounds great. Nice "piano-y" tone. Congrats. Is the RAD pickup single coil or humbucker? And by the way, how many Carvins do you own these days?

Hey Bass Viking,

I checked out your review on TB, and see that the bridge pup is the humbucker. Also noticed the change between the three pickup settings. Distinctly different sounds and good playing too!

I now have 3. The other 2 are an icon 4 string and a CT3M guitar.

Thanks! I've had basses with a PJ combination but never with a humbucker in the bridge position.

What kind of wood is the fingerboard?

Really nice X44, Viking. Nice sound on that one, too.

Zebrawood. The first instrument I've had with that wood. When I ordered, the salesperson checked to make sure it was OK for export to Canada, unlike rosewood.

Glad you like it! It almost looks like they had a left handed neck lying around and decided to build a righty instrument with it. The only drawback is if I wanted to install a Hipshot D tuner on the E string, I don't think it would fit. This is a very minor thing though, I have 5 stringers to play.

I'm loving the sound, just what I was looking for!

A Xcclerator 5 is on my must buy list.
Beautiful looking instrument you have there and I dig the demo tones.
Thanks for taking the time and sharing.

The color combo is very reminiscent of my upcoming build - its always nice to getto see a semi preview like this!
Congrats!

I am considering the SCP pickup for a Vader 4 build. I mainly play finger style.

Would you mind doing another noodly video or even just a private audio recording, where you do some varied finger techniques? Play a bass line, doe some staccato and muting type stuff. Maybe some slides. I know from your videos that bass gets a great piano tone. But I'm trying to hear what else it can do!

I think I can work something up.

I just uploaded this video, playing pick style:

Just to clarify: you want to hear just the SCP pickup?

A little bit of center detent is nice for contrast. But, pretty much all SCP . A 75-ish percent blend would be great, too. I do that sort of blend a lot.
