Your Christmas Card from ElfDude

Postby ElfDude » Mon Dec 04, 2017 2:14 pm

Remember when you were in the first grade and it was Christmastime and your teacher gave you a piece of construction paper, some crayons, some glue and glitter, and you were supposed to fold the paper in half and make a Christmas card to take home to your parents or guardians?
Well, if you're seeing this post, this is my homemade Christmas card to you. It's similar in quality to the one I made in the first grade. But I'm told it's the thought that counts. And it has Carvin SH225 content, so it can't be ALL bad, right?

Merry Christmas to my Kiesel/Carvin brothers and sisters.

Now THAT is a vintage M22N. That sounds almost exactly (I mean E X A C T L Y ) like my 150K this past weekend. I'm finishing an instrumental called TUSCALOOSA (actually was out in a Brooklyn studio last night recording drums for it) and it's a jazzy piece with lots of use of the vintage Hagstrom Viking and the 150K.. two beautifully clear and round and rich neck humbuckers that do "big" cleans really well. The semihollow for the big rich chording and the solidbody for the precision single-line/2-note interval counterpointing harmonies.

That was really cool Elf. And I love that you chose that timeless instrument to deliver timeless seasons greetings. All the best right back to you and your family, good sir!

I've obviously got a lot high end in the way it's EQ'd here. But yeah. It does its thing. :)

A little Poligrip should fix that up!

Sorry, couldn't resist.
I look forward to hearing the finished piece!

I've been sort of obsessed with tornadoes lately, and the 2011 Tuscaloosa wedge just blows me away (no pun intended since I wasn't in it).. all those rare suction vortices branching out at 90 degrees like tentacles makes it look like a killer from outer space... which it basically was.

Some of the most terrifying tornado footage you'll ever see. Stick with it to when it gets just down the block from him...

Also Alabama has been in the news a lot lately. I thought the idea of "Alabama Vortex" useful because of that. But at the same time sympathetic to the memory of those who died that day.

Dude. That was totally brill. Thanks for sharing. I don't have any Christmas Carvin magic (other than a supporting role in X-Mann's X-Mas X-travaganza a couple years ago), but here's a little thing I did on my Aerodyne Strat a few years back.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good life.

"Silent Night" is possibly my favorite of the classic "sacred" carols, those that actually dwell on the religious aspect of the holiday. (I'm not a religious guy myself, but I appreciate sincere faith.) Your gently-layered approach suits the material. Nicely done!

This is my favorite"Carol Performance" of them all. The two men's voices blend together so well and share that unique, "passionate crooner" masculinity.

Sadly, the wish for Peace On Earth seems less possible than ever. Now as a country we're all at our own throats rather than focusing outward on our enemies.

And last night Tuscaloosa County became the center of the known universe, where the crux of a social defiance was mounted. :applause: :applause: :applause:
