to be discontinued...

Postby JCG » Fri Dec 08, 2017 2:25 pm

For those who missed Jeff's live feed on 12/6, the following models, in addition to the TL60/TL70, are being discontinued:

CT74, DC747, JB207, X227, and the ULTRAV7.

Also, Jeff said that the Bolt model would be going up a "tremendous amount".

My guess is that the Bolt will go up to match the Aries pricing, perhaps even more because of the pickguards and 3 pickups instead of the Aries standard 2 pickups (additional parts). They also had rosewood fretboards for a while and were switched to Ebony because of CITES without a price increase, so this is probably going to re-balance that in. I wonder if they are going to go with Lithium pickups, Kiesel logo, and possibly locking tuners as standard? It's the only model they carry with standard tuners, and it was likely only to keep their cheapest model as cheap as possible.

Is the CT74...I thought that already went away, and is now just the CT73 and CT7. No?

The DC747 already went away...it was a DC727 with a middle pickup option, like with the DC145/DC127 with middle pickup.

Not surprised to see the 7s go. I do think the JB would have sold better with a 7-inline pointy.

7-string CT, but they used to have a CT4 and CT74 which was with a plain maple top. In the 6-string versions, they just got rid of the 4 and gave the option to put a maple top on the CT3. I thought they already did that with the 7-strings.

Yeah not a surprise, but the CT7 has its charms I enjoy mine...sorry to see that model go.
The X227 and UltraV7 look cool but “seem” like they might be more prone to being neck heavy depending on choice of woods used etc.
Reguardless these models are likely not selling well enough, we don’t see many pics of them these days.

Except the DC700, K Series, Vader, SCB7, Aries, Solo, Vanquish, Crescent, Chris Letchford Signature, Lee McKinney signature,
and Holdsworth headless signature. In fact except for the past few months where they overlapped, we've got as many 7 strings than ever.

The number of Kiesel models that don't come in 7 or 8 string versions at this point is very small.

The AC basses don't come in a 7. Korn is dead! :laughhard:

Nobody needs Korn. That was so 1998. Let's move on people!

I think most of the world has, including most 7 and 8-string players.

Shane Gibson is/was the only thing about Korn that I have any interest in.

I'm somehow ok with this. I'm very glad the DC127 and V220 are not on the chopping board. That's actually a load off my mind, as I still hold vague hopes of ordering one of those someday. I'll miss seeing the CT74 for sure, as that would have been 2nd choice to the A7 for me. And before Aries came out it would have been 1st. But I'm not going to buy one now anyway. I think for 7 string I slightly (just slightly) prefer the Crescent even.

If the Bolt goes up any more than it already has I might as well buy a Strat. I can't justify Kiesel's prices when there are cheaper options I can actually try in a nearby store for no money up front.
Guitars:
2x Carvin Bolt
DC145
AE185
Ibanez RG1570 and Mikro
2x Fender MIM Strat
Ovation Celebrity
PRS SE Custom 24

Amps:
V3M
Legacy 3
VT16
Quilter 101 Mini Head
Peavey JSX Head
Fender Super Champ XD
Carvin Vintage 1 x 12 cab
Carvin Legacy II 2 x 12 cab

Hey, you're right. They used to have the CT7, standard with flame top and other CT6 features, and the CT74 standard with plain maple top. They both came standard with alder body and maple neck. At first, there was no 7 string equivalent to the CT3 all-hog construction with no top. But now there is: the CT73. All-hog and no top. I completely missed that until now! I wonder when they made that change, because I think it was sometime after the CT4/3 amalgamation.

I started with a 7 string to try something and new and wouldn't you know I just prefer the extra width on the neck now.

I will probably never buy another 6 string. A 7 just seems to fit my hands a lot better.

The majority of what I play is solo work and it suits me very well.

I'm glad I bought a Bolt when I did. Its a great guitar and I actually rather have a Bolt then a Strat just because of easier access of the upper frets.
My Kiesel/Carvin collection: ST300 (M22SD bridge, S60A middle, Twin Blade neck), SCB6 (S22B bridge, S22J neck), Bolt Classic (AP11's in all positions), SH550 (S22T in the neck and bridge), AC375 and CL450. Also a Carvin V3M 50watt head with a Carvin 1x12 cabinet and Fender Jazz Bass.

Also, the AC40 and AC50. Jeff recapped the list on today's live stream, and mentioned those. I don't *think* they were mentioned before, or at least not in the first video where he mentioned specific models.
