Hey! Curious as to what clip on tuner are you using. I have a small D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner but that won't stay in place.
Thanks!

Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.Ioneater! Happy New year to you! Haven't seen you around lately. Hope all is well. I know you were dealing with an injury to your shoulder there for a bit (I think it was your shoulder, anyway). I hope you're cranking on all of those V's and that nice Nineties koa neck thru.

Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.Only one con......
No hardshell case. Other than that.... perfect.
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
Honestly, I like the soft case better!! And I used to be a hard line hard case guy!

Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.Actually, I think the Vader is a great looking guitar. Everyone I have shown mine to has been very impressed. My VM8 is the most light and compact and comfortable 8 string I have every played. I think access to the headless tuners is the best of all the Kiesel designs.
My only issue has been transitioning to an 8 string. While it brings new possibilities, it also brings more complexity. I go back and forth. When I get overwhelmed by the 8, I go back to a 6. Then the 6 feels like a tooth pick and I fall into my usual playing ruts. Then I pull out the 8 and rediscover how great it is. Currently, I am back playing the 8 and experimenting with different tuning's. It has really expanded my fretboard knowledge and inspired me to create new musical ideas I never would have thought to do on a 6. Exciting stuff. I am having a great time.
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons. Can you put heavy gauge strings on a headless guitar? I've heard that you aren't supposed to, but I don't really know. I'm thinking of buying a Holdsworth headless, but it'd be a deal breaker if I can't put 12s on it. What do you guys think?
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.I have 11s on mine, with no issues. Truss rod is not even that tight. I did send the strings in so it could be set up with them from the start.
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
Thank you for your reply! Do the strings fit easily into the holes at the bridge and at the nut? One concern I have is that the 12s would be physically too thick to fit through those holes.
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.No problems stringing up with 11-49, so I think you'd be fine with 12s. Again, best to call in when you order to indicate you want the guitar set up with that particular set of strings.
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
Okay! I definitely will call in about that. Thank you!
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons. Also, do you think a 56 would fit on the low end? How tight is it on the 49? I use 12-56
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
My v7 uses a 60 or 62. You'll be fine. Current Carvins:

Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
Thank you, I appreciate that! The slot for that one isn't bigger because it's a 7 string?
Re: Vader guitar... pros and cons.
On the nut, I'd assume so. I was just referring to the hardware - i'll give it a look over when I change strings to investigate. Current Carvins:
