A full bevy of Hags ... whats that about? :P

Well, I thought I'd expounded on this stuff so much it could escape no one but here goes- the vintage Hags need no real build-up.. but I think the vintage Hags had about the truest and most time-worthy necks in the business in those days, and their humbucker pickups were extraordinary. You know how Mark Kiesel took a PAF, amped up the output (and added poles), and created a PAF-like (or kinda PAF-y) pickup that had a little more oomph behind it?

That's exactly what those old Custom 58's were, about 10 years before-- a 1958 Alnico II PAF taken apart and reingineered with a drop more output, yet they sound fantastic, that classic "Beano" sound pumped up just a touch. So those two vintage Hags, the 1972 HIIN OT double cut (with the coolest headstock) to the right of the DC150 and the 1975 Viking to the left of it, have just dead perfect necks, with about the sweetest vintage/time-dagaussed yet punchy pups, that magic combo.

As for the two modern ones: the second from the left is a fully handmade prototype to sell the idea of the Northen Series to Rosetti in the UK (the big Gibson distributor out there), and their retailers like Andertons, etc, in 2011, the year the line was introduced. The line went on for about 5-6 years, but just not enough people in the US knew of Hagstrom, so that high end line was discontinued. It's a gorgeous guitar, as thick as a Les Paul Custom, a flame top exactly as I like them (not too overdone), with flamed maple binding on the mahogany neck. It was hand built by the same Bohemian luthiery that builds some of the high end Euro made models (like Manson guitars and basses). It's got recreations of those original vintage Custom 58 Swedish pickups, designed by Johan Lundgren (that same guy that Jeff looks up to). The build quality on that guitar and the sound of that Super Swede is easily on a par with 3-6,000 Gibson Les Paul reissues. The second you hold it in your hand you feel instantly how fantastic the build quality is.

The last one I've spoken on ad nauseum-- it's just an amazing value proposition for the price... it's probably my longest sustaining guitar, it probably sustains longer than any other guitar I've played. The P90's are the nicest bumped output custom P90's I've ever played. For 700 bananas it's as unique and satisfying a guitar as you'll ever encounter. Ask anyone who owns this guitar and they'll all tell you it holds its own with guitars 2 to 4 x the price. The action is so low it almost is sinful. (I also heavily customized the wiring in the guitar and junked the old pots and switch).

They're just great guitars, very imaginative and unique, and value wise, unbeatable.

That's odd, I can see it here. That's only the second time I made a YouTube video.
I saved it as "private", cause I didn't want to share it
with the whole world, maybe that was the problem.

That could be. Although normally it *says* it's private if anyone else tried to watch it.

Try changing it to "Unlisted" instead. That way, only people with the link can see it, but it doesn't show up in search results, or as a suggested video, etc.

Thanks, it's better if it loops.
In fact now that I know it's working, I can make it loop a couple of times.

Another beautiful collection of decapitated beauties. Very nice!

Question: on the proto--did you stick a wood slug into the rout for a neck pickup that was (obviously) removed? I'm certain I can see a fill in there. (not to mention interruption of the neck stripe)

Much appreciated, thanks Doc!

Yup, I had a solid piece piece of redish mahogany stucked into the neck pickup cavity.
What seems to appear as a neck stripe is actually a maple stripe joint for mahogany body wings. The proto is a set-in, not a neck-thru.

That's interesting! That's not something you see very much of--I wonder what effect (if any at all) that middle line of wood has on the sound of the guitar. Probably negligible, but it looks cool though.

It of course is going to make people think your guitar is a neck thru.

You guys have some really cool instruments across the board!

Ugh, I really need to get my collection all in one place. Hopefully soon, and then I can post a current picture of the madness.

'Tis the one. It appeared on Reverb shortly after that video was made. I think he likes to sit down and play for the most part and the inner wing jack drove him crazy. Great sounding guitar with 22SD and V pups. I need to de-gloss the neck. The sweat from my hands gives it that squeaky gym floor feeling in the warmer months....like right now!
