Re: Pics from Kiesel/Carvin's social media
I'm in love with this light purple GH3. I wouldn't buy it, but I'm in love with it.
Probably my favorite Osiris bass to date (walnut top, ash body)
Burled redwood K series
Cool flamed maple on an HH2
Vader with solid flamed wings and 3-piece neck, and two-tone blue and black paint job

I'd play each of those. Yes I would. Especially the HSH GH3.
I imagine that Vader is seriously bright?

All maple, trem, ebony board, and it looks like Lithium pickups. Yep, I'd day so. :-p
I do like the covered 7-string pickups, though.

There's always the single-coil-sized-humbucker options, but yeah...although, even though they did say that HH was an option on the GH3 when it was launched, I think it took like a year before I saw one in the pics of the day.

I can't figure out why, but I don't like HSH on a guitar. It really doesn't make any sense that I don't like it, but I just don't.
I'm completely lost on this subject.

Re: Pics from Kiesel/Carvin's social media
The last guitar I had it on was an Ibanez. When the 5-way was set to the 2 and 4 position, it was the split humbucker paired with the single coil in the middle. I think if you want the least amount of noise possible, it was the best way to have a humbucker in the neck when you want it, and a vaguely "single coil-y" sound when you want it, but virtually no noise (even less than my HSS Aries or what I remember from my old old HSS strat.
It's also good for knocking picks out of your hand if you're used to playing an HH with the open area in the middle.

I don't like playing three pickup guitars at all. I always smash my pick into the middle pickup.

Super cool piece of buckeye on a DC700, and it makes for a cool pattern on the guitar.

See, at least if I felt that way, what I wrote would make sense. But that doesn't bother me in the slightest. If it did, then the super-unique, longnecked Asian made oddball cutie on the right in the below pic wouldn't be one of my fave guitars evahh:

I've never understood that complaint, since most guitar players play over the bridge pickup at times, over the neck pickup at others, and even over the neck itself at others. And if your pick is scooping down so deep as to knock a pickup beneath . . . change technique! I don't want to get too deep in that direction since it'll sound like I'm trying to lecture you guys, who already know what you're doing.
It's just that the physical presence of a middle pup doesn't bug me in the slightest, fact when I get a LP Custom (eventually) it will be a triple PAF like so:

Getting the same thing with an ebony board rather than Richlite (which I like far less than birchwood-and-resin "Resninator") would be the challenge.
There's just something about it--the way the extra single coil pickup skews the volumes/tones off of the two humbuckers (in an oddball sonic equation, and I just am dicey on how it looks). It just doesn't make the slightest bit of sense whatsoever. It's like the bias of a little kid.

I just have poor technique and I'm too lazy to fix it just to have another pickup.

When I'm "rocking out", when passion overwhelms the restraint on poor technique, I'll generally just aim for the big open area between the pickups and hope for the best. If there's a pickup there, I'm more likely to trip over it. Not a huge deal, either way.

I’m thinking the zeus bass looks more like Summer Ash treatment....

Congrats Zak. And that might be my favorite family pic of Jeff's clan yet. Mark on the phone makes me smile.
