Re: What Live Show Did You Just See?
I saw Paul Gilbert last night finally. It was amazing. I've waited 12 years for him to come to Nashville, ever since he was on the G3 tour and I made the mistake of not going. He was also here with Mr. Big last year but I'm more interested in his solo act. His setlist was all either covers or stuff from his new record, and it was all great and never felt boring to me like some instrumental shredders can get. I hope he comes back here again soon.

Check his website because he could be coming your way. You never know. Also, the tickets were incredibly cheap, only $30, and I got to sit like 20 feet away directly in front of him. It was awesome!
Also, he is proving to be an incredible slide guitar player. He does all the vocal lines with a slide. He even does a rendition of Life's Been Good by Joe Walsh, replacing all the vocals with slide parts, and it's pretty awesome.

Gary Clark Jr.
STUPENDOUS.
IME he delivered his internal person (emotion, mood, feel, - whatever you call it) to the audience in such an incredible way that he is only surpassed by two others that I have seen live: SRV and Jeff Healey. I kid you not. This guy is dripping with soul.
And his playing is sick.

Queen in St. Paul, Aug. 10th. Very cool. They were a class act. The stage setup was really cool. Although Adam Lambert doesn't sound like Freddie, the guy can belt out a tune.

Saw Ghost for the second time, but first headlining. Extremely entertaining and great musicians! Say what you want about Ghost....I get it, the image is over the top and gimmicky and that alone will turn a lot of people off. But, I'm 47 and grew up with Kiss. This is the first band for me that really brings back the theatrical experience I remember from back then. The difference is they can actually play extremely well!

Leo Kottke...
He, understandably, didn't play some of his more complicated pieces. But at least his jokes and stories are getting better.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra on 21 December 2019 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas TX. Phenomenal show - the musician ship is stellar and the visuals are mind-blowing, especially when they brought out the giant, flame-throwing Tesla coil for "The Mountain."
Contrary opinion: my wife would have like more emphasis on the performers and less on the spectacle. Her favorite part of the show was when the guitar player (not Pitrelli, the other guy) and the violinist came out into the crowd and played directly to/interacted with the fans.
Only had my mobile phone camera so the picture quality is so-so.

It takes a NASA-like control center to manage all the goings-on at a TSO show:

Re: What Live Show Did You Just See?
Their most famous song was originally recorded for and released on Savatage's Dead Winter Dead album. It's worth a listen. I didn't realize TSO was an extension of that Savatage album (which I've had since high school) until a few years ago.
From Wikipedia:
"Dead Winter Dead is the ninth studio album by the American heavy metal band Savatage, released in 1995. It is a concept album, dealing with a Serb boy and a Muslim girl who fall in love. The story of the album also focused on the Bosnian War, which was ongoing at the time."

Yep, and the TSO tune "The Mountain" (the one accompanied by flame-throwing Tesla coils) is a rework of "Prelude to Madness" from the Savatage HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING album - which also happened to be the debut of the late Paul O'Neill's association with the band. Of course, O'Neill cribbed that music both from Grieg's PEER GYNT suite and Holst's THE PLANETS - possibly the first of the many classical mash-ups associated with Savatage/TSO.

Well worth the price of admission. They don't often tour outside Christmas season, but will hit the road occasionally if they have a non-holiday album to support. Pitrelli mentioned they are working on new material, so keep an eye out.
