One final build

Postby UnexplodedCow » Wed Aug 15, 2018 6:21 pm

This is not a build, or choice that I took lightly. It started as a small idea, and an ideal to distill as many guitars into one. It's designed to be a counterpart to my V6, which was an eye opening guitar for me. Several guitars are being replaced by this. It's been a long mental road, and each choice was deliberate. I have voiced my opinions enough, and most regulars here know that I favor denser woods, tremolos, hot pickups, along with nonstandard colors. I'm not a tonewood believer, but believe in a wood being mechanically sound first, and beautifully figured second. With all that in mind, here's my new one in the oven. Be afraid.

Z6X model.
2 piece Swamp Ash body
Trans pink finish in gloss
Cocobolo neck and fretboard
MOP dot inlays, standard position
Stainless jumbo frets
20" radius
Fishman fluence pickups
White logo

Trans pink and cocobolo? You're a braver man than I. :)

Congrats on the new build!

Cocobolo made sense in the neck. I always liked the trans pink over ash. I know...weird combo, but it should be quite functional, durable, and theft resistant.

The safest guitar to come out of the shop?

Some of those unblendable burst colors (I'm looking at YOU "Venom burst") are likely soooper doooper secure items, as well.

Who else is gonna' rock a near-magenta headless with an obvious rosewood-family neck? It should be quite traceable if stolen.

Fun fact: As a young boy, I had a Lisa Frank school binder. I loved the bright, contrasting colors. Even more surprisingly, my combat-veteran dad supported it; he thought they looked neat, too. Sure, I was made fun of at school for it, but nobody ever tried stealing my binder; too distinct, and the colors made me smile.

This build will be no different. Hey, maybe I'll break from my trend of not naming anything, and call it "Lisa ." :laughhard:

I dunno, Turn. That is rather close to a desert camouflage.

If the desert is made of ink blotters and surgical splatter, I guess.

That build is pure legend! It's magical powers are greater than us all...

Rorschachburst, is probably what that should be called.

You know, pink was a masculine baby color until the mid-20th century. Food for thought...get all them pink guitars.

I'm surprised it was a little over 4 weeks build time. Blows my mind.

It turned out as I'd hoped, too. The grain isn't obscured by the color at all (trans pink, and not trans pearl will do that). I'd considered black edges, but really prefer the straight pink.

The fretboard was featured about a week ago, next to a pale moon ebony one.
