New Kiesel arrived with a mark/dint

Postby Chunji » Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:32 pm

Hi everyone this is my first post ever, I am a new family member!

I received my gorgeous Kiesel around 2 weeks ago (such a beautiful guitar!), everything came perfect and I love the guitar! But I just found a dint with a white mark on the side of the guitar a few days after I received the guitar. At first I I thought I bumped it and made a scratch myself. So I went back looking at the photos I took the day the guitar arrived and the mark was there already. So I went back further to look at the photos of my guitar that was posted on the Kiesel's facebook when the guitar was still in the workshop and it was already there too.

I wrote an email to Kiesel and they told me that the mark is a natural occurrence from the wood and not a defect. But I am still curious about it and so I am here to ask everyone's opinion on this. Please help me look at the photos in the attachments and let me know what you think.

I would also like to ask if there are any method to remove the mark, I did ask Kiesel and they said there is no way to remove. Although the mark is on the side and you cant see it from the front but whenever I see it, its just bothering my eyes. The mark does not affect the playing but I just hope that it can go away because it affects the aesthetics of the guitar as a whole/.

Can someone also recommend how to clean a rawtone finish guitar. I would be playing this axe in live shows where I would be very sweaty and I don't want my sweat to sink into the wood. Any suggestions on what to use for wipe downs and cleaning?
Maybe someone already talked about this topic in the forum but I can't find it. If anyone have any recommendations please tell me. :D

PS. I am not here to discredit Kiesel or anything I just want an opinion on whether or not its an natural mark and are there anyways to remove it. Also when you spend so much money on your dream guitar you hope for it to come perfect. I hope that everyone can understand :D

Thank you guys~ :D

Personally, it does look like a natural mark in the wood. Not a scratch, crack, or dent. To me, it looks like perhaps this is where a branch may have derived from, similar to the start of a knot. These spots in wood drastically change the density of the wood, which totally changes how the wood absorbs stains, which is why it looks lighter. The wood is so dense, that stain can't really penetrate it.

I can't tell someone to be bothered by it or not... But it does appear to be natural to me.

Very very cool looking guitar. Love the Royal ebony combined with the color on the burst.

Is there any bas relief to the mark? In other words if you run a finger over it can you feel any variation on the surface of the axe?

It looks like post-finish to me.

It looks natural to me as well. If you can actually feel a difference with a finger (or nail) then it might not be, but I'm not too sure. Could be a spot where the stain didn't take, or maybe was rubbed off slightly (doubtful, but possible, I suppose).

That would not bother me in the slightest, but, if it bothers you, maybe keep talking with customer service and see what can be done. The guitar is in warranty, though at two weeks, your trial period is up.

By the way; that's a very pretty instrument. I hope you're otherwise enjoying it.

Do or do not; there is no understand.

Looks natural. Swamp ash in particular is prone to that sort of striping in the wood. Alder can as well.

Cleaning raw tone? Hmmm. Not sure on that one.
