Craziest finish on mahogany body (no top)

Postby Toat » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:19 pm

What's the sickest radest finish kiesel can put on mahogany (no top)?
I was thinking something like a cali burst would be cool on mahogany because of the darker clear center
Do they do DTS or something like antique ash on mahogany?

I cant find any photos and I'm not into maple or hardwood tops.

I think on mahogany, there's not enough variance in the grain, either in color or texture, you work well with something like AAT.. it would likely just look "dirty".. and not necessarily in a good way.

Mahogany is going to make any trans finish as bit darker, compared to maple, ash or even alder. It's orange-y colour tends to make cooler colors look more green. For example, this is the same color on the flamed maple top, and the mahogany body:

I don't think that going fancy on bare mahogany works very well, and I've never seen Kiesel do it. Best transparent/translucent bets for hog are either clear or trans red IMO.

I just got a DC600 all mahogany body with no top in honeyburst and it looks awesome. How do I post a picture of it?

I've had them do an all-over purple and moss green on 2 of my CTs, where the back is mahog (figured tops). I also have a DC400 with a Koa body in sapphire blue. I wouldn't do anything darker than green over mahog. I was surprised how good the moss green turned out, altho it can be quite dark in lower room lighting.

Purple, with a lot of light - (this is normally very dark)

I have nightburst on mahogany, with maple as well. No top. It changed the teal to a sort of seasick green. I like it.

Looks almost like a colorshift.

But Seasick Green is now formally a thing. I don't care what anyone says!

I once saw a night sky that seriously had the same colors as the guitar. Very pretty in person.

Yes, seasick green is a thing. Teal over Mahogany :D
