Fret Wire Size

Postby harsh59 » Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:37 pm

Kiesel is listing their jumbo frets @ 55 x 110 . Carvin/Kiesel has always used Jescar fret wire @ 57 x 110 . Jescar does not offer 55 x 110 fret wire . Are Kiesel using different fret wire now or is the 55 x 110 a misprint ?

Looks like a Dunlop 6100.

In 2015, I was told they were using Dunlop for the stainless jumbo fretwire, but I believe they have switched to Jescar, and I'm guessing failed to update the catalogue.

I did not know they switched. I guess it would be around the time gold wire showed up.
I re read my quote and chuckled. I suppose Kiesel may have always used Jescar. I get stuck in the Carvin paradigm. Carvin is about 50 years older than Jescar.

So in short....

Are the new Stainless Jumbos larger or smaller than a few years ago?

I'll see about checking my current guitar vs. the one that was made a few years ago. To the naked eye, they look the same, but I didn't measure.

I doubt your fingers will notice .002", and in the end it wouldn't matter anyway. A real live human is going to level and shape them until they're right. And the .055-.057 will end up being a little less every time.

As long as the case hardness and depth is where it should be and consistently so... Dunlop, Jescar... it's all good.

They use Jescar but they don't update their website much. It's really not the size they say it is and I highly doubt Jescar makes special wire for Kiesel.

Kiesel is shipping 3500+ instruments a year at this point. They're large enough scale to get custom parts.
