I finally did it!

Postby ElfDude » Mon Jun 06, 2022 7:43 pm

Over twenty years ago I watched my brother in a band as they warmed up for the Everly Brothers. Ever since then I've wished I could warm up for someone with a real name like that... even if they are in the oldies category.

It finally happened. Last Friday night my oldies trio opened for The Surfaris (the ones who wrote Wipeout). After our set I was was asked to mix sound for them using my own gear, which had me pretty scared. They borrowed our drums too! But it went well. And they were a class act all the whole time. You can see a sample of the evening in the fan video shared below.

Sorry there was no Kiesel or Carvin gear involved, except for one Carvin microphone. During our set I played a Gretsch guitar and a Quilter combo amp. The Surfaris played Fender guitars through Fender Twin Reverb amps (of course).

Holy crap!! That's awesome, dude! Congrats! :)

"Wipe Out" is the one and only song I can play from start to finish on all of the instruments.

Thanks, guys.
The following day my group played a three-hour set at a car show.
The bassist from The Surfaris came and sat and watched us for a little over a half hour. That was kind of cool.
The others waved at us.

Overall it was a great weekend.

Like spinning fuzzy guitars around his belt buckle … and the windmill your arm, lean-back, and wave at the Chevy passing by.
